I dont think the projector is relevant aside from the fact that it is mounted on the ceiling and thus too far and unfeasible to connect a cable.
Im not sure why thats unclear because thats what my title and post both say. Thanks for this information, but I want to be able to use my Chromecast device to connect it. These articles are all about projectors but I dont think the projector is relevant or the actual issue, the trouble is that I am looking for a work around to use Chromecast to extend my screen instead of mirroring it - which it currently wont do with Windows Thanks, I am able to connect to my Chromecast using the typical method of sharing my screen from my laptop Chrome browser.
This works excellent for mirroring the screen, but unfortunately I am unable to get it to extend the screen which is what I actually need - a second display. In the settings menu selecting "try connecting to VGA anyways" when an external display is not detected is supposed to appear in many instructions, but this option is no longer available in Windows Really, Im just looking for a work around to extend my display with Chromecast because Windows does not recognize Chromecast as a display device.
But how does the projector receive the signal if it can't use a wire, doesn't have wireless, bluetooth or Chromecast? It would need to have some type of receiver, which has not been mentioned even though I've asked repeatedly and demonstrated almost all of the possibilities. It's a new checkbox that appears at the bottom left of that dialog box. I found the solution! Follow steps 1 — 2 below. Repeat steps 3 — 5 again, just to stop the Chromecast. Repeat steps 3 -5 a third time and voila! Step 6 is now possible.
Assuming your computer is convinced that it has a second screen attached, then to extend your desktop with Google Chromecast, Make sure to hold down the Windows button on your keyboard and press P.
Then select Extend from the right flyout menu that should appear this is what will open up the second monitor as an option for you to extend your desktop in the next few steps! After that, proceed to your Google Chrome browser on your PC and click the three-dot menu at top right and select Cast A popup menu will appear, but don't select your Chromecast device just yet! Instead, at this point you will choose what source content to cast. Hover over to the bottom of the popup menu and click the Sources button, and from its drop-down list select "Cast desktop" so it becomes checked.
Now you can click in the popup menu on the name of the Chromecast device to which you want to cast your screen. You will then be presented with a choice of Screen 1 or Screen 2 which you will cast to the Chromecast device, so choose Screen 2 here and click Share. That's it! Some caveats about extending your desktop via Chromecast, from my experience: You may experience a slight video lag on the extended monitor; I say it is negligible considering the advantages you gain by this feature you just shouldn't expect high performance screen refresh rates on it!
This is no longer working on Windows 10 — daviddgz. I found a solution for Windows The trick is to add a virtual display and then use Chromecast to stream to that display. To create the display, install this driver: amyuni. You will then see another display in Display settings.
Set that to extend. Now you can stream to that display via Chrome. My answer above is indeed still working for me on Windows 10 Version I would stay away from downloading third-party software drivers to make your Chromecast work--especially from unknown sources like the proposed amyuni. This can only ever work if your PC is, for whatever reason, detecting a second display, I think? This doesnt seem to be working for me.

Great idea, though, for someone that just needs the extra real estate but doesn't need to see both screens simultaneously.
